The Simple and Earth-Conscious Way to Get a "Like New" Rug

Something old can indeed become new again. Rugs can take on a completely new look with some minor area rug repair techniques or rug dyeing. We'll introduce you to some great ideas to give your Oriental rug or fine area rug a newfound use!

Recycle, reuse, repurpose, upcycle; these are many of the "green" terms you'll hear a lot, especially this month. April 22nd is Earth Day, and with landfill waste at an all-time high, it is critical that we reduce our carbon footprint. Upcycling, reuse, recycling, and repurposing are great ways to do just that and can easily be integrated into your standard way of living. First, let's get clear on the terminology. These terms can be used for any object, but for the purpose of this article; the object will be an area rug.

Upcycling- taking materials such as an area rug or an Oriental rug that is no longer wanted or needed and creatively transforming them into something else that you do want or need. An example would be having your Oriental rug made into accent pillows.

Recycle- processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Much like upcycling, only recycling connotes reselling. i.e., rug and furniture consignment. Before listing your rug for sale, hire a professional to clean your rug. An area rug cleaning and repair on your rug will pay for itself when you sell.
