You may think a rug pad is used just under wall-to- wall carpeting to make thin rugs more comfortable under foot. While it is true that it does ad cushion, it is not just for underneath wall-to-wall carpeting. It is so beneficial to use padding under area rugs too; here’s why…

1. Safety

A rug pad helps to hold your area rug safely in one place. A non-slip rug pad is the best away to avoid accidents due to a shifting rug. Even rugs anchored by furniture can slide or bunch up without a rug pad and create a tripping hazard. We even have rug pads designed to be placed between an area rug and carpet.

2. Comfort

The additional layer of cushion provides a softer

more buoyant feeling as you walk across the rug. This extra layer of cushion also acts as noise insulation, making your rooms quieter and even provides insulation from the cold floor in colder months. Check out our plush rug pad here.

3. Health Rug pads promote airflow through your rugs. Air circulation through your rug reduces moisture being trapped in your rugs. This prevents mildew, mold and bacteria from growing in the fibers, making cleaning easier.

4. Protection Area rugs can collect and hold a lot of gritty dirt and can damage your floors over time as it moves and slides around your hardwood floors. Without a rug pad, the material is pushed against the hardwood floor causi

ng thousands of tiny scratches. Using a rug pad will also give your floors added protection from dye bleed from your rugs, which can occur with liquid spills and pet urine.

5. Longevity Friction from walking on a rug and from a rug slipping can damage and crush the rug pile. A rug pad will prevent fiber crushing or stretching—maintaining the beauty and increasing the longevity of your investment.

Tips

When choosing the rug pad that’s right for your home, there are a few things to consider:

  • How thick is my rug?

  • Where will it be – hardwood, carpet, cement or other hard surfaces?

  • How thick should my rug pad be?

And we’re here to help answer your questions! We will custom size and cut pad to perfectly fit your rug.

In 1970, 20 million Americans mobilized to call for greater protection for our planet. Earth Day is born. Earth Day 1970 gave a voice to an emerging public consciousness about the state of our planet. Fast forward to 2021, over 50 years later, an estimated 1 billion individuals will be mobilized for action on this day, and over 190 countries engaged. But what about businesses?

The term sustainability is increasingly popular, but how is it being carried out in the rug industry? Real environmental concerns have forced many industries to look at the processes and products that they use. The handwoven rug industry is no different. The industry has changed substantially to address environmental concerns. Most area rug cleaners are no longer cleaning regularly with toxic chemicals and are filtering wastewater.

Bal Arisi is an environmentally conscientious company. We initiated responsible ‘green’ cleaning as our policy long before it became the watchword of the industry. Our regular cleaning solutions are non-toxic and bio-degradable. We often use household products such as vinegar over industry manufactured products. Where cleaning agents are used, we choose them based on MSDS rating factors that are safe for people and animals.

We care about our customers, their pets, our employees, and the environment. We believe in putting health, safety, and the environment first as primary business and personal objectives. Not because of government regulation, but because it is the right thing to do for all of us.

Bal Arisi chooses natural and/or safe cleaning products, and our area rug repair services support longevity in the duration of the useful life of a rug. Today’s fast fashion culture often promotes the disposal of “old” styles. Bal Arisi believes that well-made woven rugs can last generations and, if taken care of, can be repaired and passed on to someone else who will enjoy it after you have outgrown it rather than sending it to a landfill. Cottage businesses will even repurpose area rugs that have served beyond their useful life as a rug.

Though the environmental issues are complicated and these are just small steps, it is in this Earth Day spirit that we will make progress in the quest to mitigate the climate crisis.

We will continue to see an influx of a wide variety of area rugs into the residential interior design arena. Due to the popularity of hard surfaces in the last three years, an increased demand for area rugs to adorn those hard surfaces followed. That said rugs in different styles, various price points, and levels of quality have flooded the market. Here is what the trend menu looks like for 2021.

  1. ECO-FRIENDLY

A movement toward conscious choice has amped up the demand for friendlier alternatives to interact with nature. Given this, manufacturers focus on environmentally friendly, sustainable and recycled materials.

2021 will showcase

  • Recycled products. Various types of recycled materials are used in whole or in part in the manufacture of rugs

  • Plant based products. Eco-friendly flooring features such material as

  • Sisal- a rope-like material that comes from the sisalana, or agave plant which is native to Brazil, Mexico, and Africa. Sisal rugs give a unique homey feel to any space. Such carpets are highly durable and can easily withstand the load in places with high traffic.

  • Jute - is obtained from two plants, the Corchorus Olitorius and Corchorus Capsularis. These plants are native to the Indian subcontinent and are grown throughout the year. Jute rugs are woven from the woody center of the plant, and add a stylish element to home decor. These heavy-duty rugs are quite durable in low traffic areas, but since jute is a good absorbent, avoid areas with high humidity and potential for contamination.

2. MAXIMALISM

Whether carpet or rugs design, self-expression is one of the main principles of living space design in 2021. When choosing a area rug, do not be afraid to show your personality and boldly break the rules.

Crashing color combinations and conflicting patterns define the modern idea of maximalism.

3. VINTAGE

Surprisingly, a stylish base carpet can look like it was deliberately deprived of its expressive color, pattern, dense pile, and even thoroughly rubbed. In this case, we are not talking about any vintage, but an entirely new floor covering. In such products, the aged effect is achieved by special dyeing, and the pile is removed or sheared either chemically or mechanically.

4. CUT AND LOOP PILE

Cut-loop carpets are made by combining straight fibers with loop-like ones, achieving interesting geometric or abstract patterns. The combination of different types of buttonholes creates unique contrasting textures and patterns.

Since many modern design trends are heavily dependent on various textures, this carpet style will not lose its relevance in 2021.

2020 saw many of us and our family spending much more time in our homes. Likely 2021 will start the same way. Hence, all this time at home equals more wear and tear on our rugs. If you're rugs are looking less that bright and clean or are experiencing damage. Give Bal Arisi a call, we love cleaning and fixing area rugs!
